Xiaomi in a major development a week back had announced its plans to make Poco India an independent legal entity in the country. The brand felt that the Indian market had the right maturity for the big step. The decision was driven majorly by the demand and response on the only Poco F1 launched in August 2018.
“POCO has been able to differentiate itself in the market in the last one and half years. We will continue listening to consumers to bring innovative products to them… we are working on establishing an independent legal entity in India,” sentiments confirmed by C Manmohan.
With the announcement, came the speculations on the Poco products roadmap, next launch, dates, specifications and whether the brand will retain its affordability tag.
Regarding the timeline on the first launch, Manmohan confirmed in an interview that a POCO will soon be in the Indian market by February. He also confirmed that the latest model will be available on launch on its retail partner sites and official website.
“We will launch our new phone next month. We will start online and then progress to additional channels,” said C Manmohan.
He didn’t divulge on the details of the model, its specs and price range. But a couple of image leaks on the specs have surfaced online. Let us have a look at them
A leakster on twitter shared images of the next POCO (China firmware) tested by Polish colleagues. As per the shared images, the new POCO phone will carry the label of POCO X2.
POCO X2 V220.127.116.11.QGHINXM = India
Redmi K30 4G V18.104.22.168.QGHCNXM = China Firmware
From the shared screen grab, it looks to be based on RedmiK30. It might be the Poco X2 model which C Manmohan is referring to as the Poco model of February. This doesn’t mean that POCOF2 will not see the light of day. It may also be launched later, but it will be an altogether different phone.
The news doesn’t help much, the intrigue on Poco F2 remains. Have to wait for February!
