Xiaomi launched Poco family in the August 2018 with #PocoF1, a core budget phone for its customer base. Its sales touched 700,000 units in India in 3 months since its launch and turned out be to the most successful flagship killer smartphone from Xiaomi. Gauging the success of Poco F1, Xiaomi teased its customers with the successor to Poco F1 by name of Poco F2 #familia.
Is Poco Family inspired from Mi models?
Poco F1, master of speed, was inspired from Mi 8, it can be said that it was a stripped down version with some features taken off and some retained, a less costly version of Mi 8. In other words, Poco flagship launch was to build a reputation of budget phone manufacturer.
It is being contemplated that Poco F2 will be inspired from Mi 9 and possibly like its predecessor will be a stripped down version. Some features which are expected to be taken off from Mi 9 will be a glass back and move over to the metallic back. Like Redmi Note 7, gorilla glass back can be provided but it might hike the price of the gadget. The front will be corning gorilla glass like Poco f1 but a smaller one. It will carry dot notch display (6.3″, 19.5:9 FHD+Display, LTPS in-cell screen, 450 nit brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio) similar to Redmi Note 7. The possibility of pop -up selfie camera or sliding camera provision by Xiaomi is not probable. The simple reason for not making any drastic change in camera mechanism will not be preferred by Xiaomi because it will increase the cost. Xiaomi has come out openly that it will be going for pop -up selfie camera in one of its future models, maybe Mix 3 series.
There are chances that Poco F2 will have face unlock feature but 3D face unlock or IR supported one will not be available. The feature of Infrared Face unlock in Poco F1 will hopefully be retained in Poco F2. Amoled display should be available in Poco F2 similar to Mi 9 which will enhance the implementation of in display fingerprint.
Internally Poco F2 will be almost replica of Mi 9 snapdragon processor and liquid cool technology. In an enhancement from Poco f1, Poco f2 might have Hybrid Dual Sim Slot. 4000maH battery which is fast charging one but it might happen that you have to purchase a fast charger in addition to the gadget. The headphone jack will be retained for India users. It is confirmed that the phone will have the latest Mi UI11 available for global customers from Xiaomi. Few more features include hidden app icons and support to third-party icons. There will be fewer ads to be displayed though it will be an enhanced version of Mi UI10. Poco F2 will be empowered with Poco Launcher, faster gaming experience and will support third-party icon packs. A unique feature of Poco F2 will be IR blaster which will turn your phone into a universal remote control. Though it will facilitate 5G connection but the feature will not be of any use for Indian customers. But one thing is for sure that it will be a ready phone to work on 5G once India is ready for 5G.
Let us keep our fingers crossed and tuned for updates on Poco F2
