Xiaomi announces Mi Express Kiosks In India!

Xiaomi’s latest retail strategy in India witnessed the launch of Mi Express Kiosks, a vending machine for smartphones and their accessories. Interesting isn’t it!  We have seen and purchased beverages and eatables from vending machines but certainly not mobile devices. Xiaomi will be the first brand in India which will be selling gadgets and their accessories via vending machines. They have been nicknamed Mi Express Kiosks. In India, the initial launch will be held in the metro cities. Based on the response received, gradual expansion in other cities will be planned.

Let us hope that the upcoming launches from Xiaomi which include Poco F2 and Redmi K20 Pro be available on the Kiosk for direct purchase. Poco fans do not have to wait for the availability of stock on Flipkart, let us keep fingers crossed!

The innovative idea arose out of the lack of availability of gadgets during the flash sale. The restriction to the availability of an e-commerce vendor let to limited stocks. To counter that and to increase the reach, access to Xiaomi products in the offline market,  vending machine concept was designed for India. Research and development of Mi Express Kiosks and its implementation was carried out in India. It was similar to the concept launched a year back in China.

The mode of payment accepted at the kiosk will be all types of credit and debit cards, cash, and even UPI. It is expected that operational costs will not be added to the products sold through the vending machine. It will bring down the selling price of the devices. As claimed by Mi the latest smartphones will be available at genuine prices similar to those on Mi Homes and Mi.com.

As of now, the details on days’ and timings of availability of mobile vending machine are not available. In China, the mobile vending machine is open for service 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Most probably the kiosks will be located in public accessible regions such as shopping malls, stations, metro stations, Bus Terminal, Airports to name a few. First such innovative kiosk got inaugurated at Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru.

Let us wait and watch how the out of the box retails strategy from Xiaomi will work in India?
