Redmi which was a flagship of Xiaomi has been very recently carved out as an independent brand. The focus of Redmi flagship will be to cater only to the budget and affordable segment market. Both flagship phones Redmi Pro2 and Pocofone F2 will have Redmi Snapdragon 855 and quality hardware similar to Mi 9. The leaks suggest that the next launch from Redmi will be powered by curry best Qualcomm top-end processor Snapdragon 855 SoC and Pop up Selfie Camera.

It has been confirmed by Xiaomi that it is working on Redmi brand running on Snapdragon 855. Of late leaks suggest that they are still in the early manufacturing phase. Redmi Pro2 leaks have suggested that it will be the one to be launched with best Qualcomm top-end processor Snapdragon 855 but speculated to find its place in China. On Weibo, Redmi Pro2 was hinted to have Snapdragon 855, pop-up selfie camera and a 48MP sensor at the back. If we go by the rumors then Redmi Pro2 will be launched in India under the banner of Pocophone F2. The launch date of Poco F2 is speculated to be mid-June. But an official confirmation is awaited on this. A subtle hint at possible launch in the Indian market, flagship codes ending with “in”- “raphaelin” and “davinciin” have been used.

Launch timeline of Redmi Snapdragon 855 SoC Phone

On 15th April, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing had given hints on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, about the launch timeline of the Redmi Snapdragon 855 SoC phone. “Do not believe rumors, do not pass rumors. Not so fast, not so slow. Subject to my information”. Neither did he confirm the name of the phone and the possible country of launch, but if we go by manufacturing rumors then yes, it should be Snapdragon 855 SoC powered Redmi or Redmi Pro 2. If we try to decode Weibing then the launch of Poco F2, if “not so fast, no so slow’ then it should be somewhere in May or June of 2019.

Camera Specifications

Year 2019 will see mobile manufacturers experimenting with mechanical pop-up cameras once again. Brands like Vivo, One Plus have joined the bandwagon and have launched a pop-up camera smartphone. As per Poco f2 launch news, Xiaomi is currently working on smartphones featuring pop-up selfie cameras code-named “davinci” and “raphael” and it is highly probable that upcoming launches Pocophone F2 and Redmi Pro2 will be loaded. Don’t have any official details to share on the camera specifications front. But yes, it is expected that the pop-up selfie camera will function mechanically. This will cause the front camera to automatically appear and retract.

The hardware support and development phase for the pop-up camera is complete. As of now, the current phase for the selfie camera is the design phase. In Mi Mix 3, Xiaomi had experimented with the slider camera feature. But pop-up camera smartphones will be the first in its flagship. One Plus7 will be launching a pop-up camera smartphone by 14th May to the world. To stay in competition it was logical for Xiaomi to launch Poco F2/Redmi X also armored with a pop-up camera. The gadget market will be soon heating up.

Xiaomi has yet not confirmed the final specifications, pricing and launch date of Poco F2. Whatever has been listed on this website are leaks or available on geekbench. But yes, Xiamoi has inspired a competitive range of phones in the budget segment: Poco F2

  1. I don`t like Pop-up Cameras.
    Because I usually have my device in my pocket, I’m curious how long a pop-up camera works.
    I can not imagine that NO dust penetrates and hinders the mechanism.

      I think your observations would have been taken care of by Xiaomi during design phase.

      Let us wait and watch. Cannot commit till use it practically!
